Old New Orleans

Following this summer's devastation of the Gulf Coast by hurricane Katrina, in particular that of parts of historic New Orleans, Robin remembered some old post cards her parents had bought while honeymooning in New Orleans in 1946. The cards depict sketches of famous city sights by artist L. or S. Sarrazin (or both):

Kinsey Courtyard

"Courtyard, Alberta Kinsey's Studio, 823 Royal St. Alberta Kinsey is one of the first artists to appreciate the paintable qualities of the Old French Quarter. She came to New Orleans twenty years ago. Her first walk through the quarter so impressed her that she has never left it!"

St. Louis Cathedral

"Facing the Place d'Armes, or Jackson Square, in the heart of the New Orleans French Quarter is the triple-spired stately St. Louis Cathedral. The second oldest Catholic Church in the United States, the present edifice was built in 1794 by Don Andres Almonester y Roxas."

Court of Two Sisters
Brulatour Courtyard

"Known as the most famous of the Vieux Carre's courtyards, the patio of the Brulatour Mansion, at 520 Royal St.. . . was the home of Francois Seignouret who not only was an importer of fine French wines, but who also designed and manufactured lovely rosewood furniture."

Claiborne Courtyard

"The home of Governor Claiborne, first American Governor of the Territory of Orleans, nominated on Oct. 5th, 1804. This lovely old court yard is located at 628 Toulouse Street."

Little Theatre Courtyard

"Gate--Court of Two Sisters, 613 Royal St. This lovely old gate . . . gained its name from the fact that two sisters, Emma and Bertha Camors, for twenty years conducted a variety store at this site. Built in 1832, it was the former residence of Gov. Perier Cenier, who ruled the French Colony from 1726 to 1733."

"A spot of quaint charm in the heart of theVieux Carre is the patio of the Little Theatre. Located at 619 St. Peter St., its attractive fountain and colorful courtyard attract many visitors."
