The Little Fat Monk on eBay was kind enough to e-mail me the link to buy this booklet, which happened to be written by my old Baptist preacher W.W. Melton. Having not found any of Dr. Melton's books besides Sifted But Saved, I snapped it up. (Since then, several of his titles have surfaced on Amazon.)

This booklet (no publication date, no copyright notice) is a collection of sermon outlines to help harried preachers prepare for Sunday mornings. In his typically wry manner, Dr. Melton explains in the Preface: "These simple outlines are not given to encourage laziness. They are not to take the place of hard work; but they are sent forth to help. Many times just a suggestion is all that is needed for the unfolding of a sermon. Many times the inexperienced are called upon to lead a devotional, and with just a little help the dread of the task may be greatly lightened

"No claim is made for their superior thought, nor for any merit in the homiletical arrangement. They are far from ideal, but it is hoped that some help will be found by some hard pressed speaker. W.W.M."

The outlines are so much more than dry bones: they are sleek, compact messages of hope and encouragement similar to those in Sifted But Saved. Therefore, since the booklet was apparently never copyrighted, I am extending its usefulness by posting its contents here. The titles, Scripture references, and organization are reproduced exactly as in the booklet (except its use of all caps in the main heads); each sermon outline is exactly one page. There are 47 in all. Because these are basically sermon notes, they are frequently not grammatical. I've not edited them; they're plenty clear.

Starting at the beginning, here are the titles I have so far managed to post. Eventually, there will be 47.

Overcoming the World (1 John 5:4, 5)

The Flawless Life (Luke 23:4)

The Guest Room (Mark 14:14)

Justice and Mercy (Matt.20:1-16)

Barred Gates and Open Doors
(Gen. 3:24 and Rev. 21:25)

The Joy of Salvation (Ps. 51:12)

God Majors in Forgiveness
(Matt. 18:23-35)

A Holy Partnership (1 Cor. 3:9)

Photo of Dr. Melton from his 1949 autobiography Stories from Life. In his typical fashion, the first line from the Foreword states: "It is doubtful that any explanation will justify the publication of this volume."
